Most computers have a switched mode power supply at the input. The input current of a switched mode power supply consists of short pulses with a higher peak value than the equivalent sine wave. For such ‘non-sinusoidal’ currents the traditional kVA rating of a UPS, defined for a linear load and at 0.8 p.f. lagging, is meaningless. The kVA rating as specified for the Delta series is applicable to linear as well as to non-linear loads, as long as the crest factor remains less than 5:1
